Baht by Baht was recently part of a beach clean-up effort at Haad Chao Samran in Petchaburi province, joining Sang Foundation, Trash Hero Thailand, Grin Green and Bye Bye Plastic Bags Thailand to spread awareness against single-use plastic waste.
At the event, 11-year-old Lilly Satidtanasarn of Bye Bye Plastic Bags Thailand, along with her young friends, commanded the media spotlight, making her voice heard all the way through the bureaucracy, to the Thai Natural Resources and Environment Minister. In recent months, Lilly has been working hard to petition large retailers like the Central Group and the Mall Group to ditch plastic bags. She was also part of this year's school climate strikes where students walked out of school to demand government action for the environment.
It was certainly inspiring to see young people in action, getting their concerns heard at the policy-making level, while starting a snowballing effect at the grassroots through inspiring more and more people to live a greener lifestyle without single-use plastics.
